What is ENERGY STAR?
ENERGY STAR is the international symbol of premium energy efficiency. Products that display the ENERGY STAR symbol have been tested according to prescribed procedures and have been found to meet or exceed higher energy efficiency levels without compromising performance.
There have been a lot of misconceptions to consumers on the Energy Star program. Windows and doors need to be tested and test data created for wind, water, air and thermal glass coefficients.
Certifiers such as CSA in Canada and NFRC in the U.S. take this data and certifies the window sample. NRCAN takes data from certifier and qualifies the window according to ER values and Energy Star Program. Energy Star or NRCAN are not certifiers, they qualify the window for the program, hence under the Energy Star Program, it is a qualification not a certification. All manufactures and dealers of energy star windows must have a signed agreement and posted on NRCAN web site to promote the energy star label.
